ExperienceTAMMY J. NELSON began her legal assistant training at Wessels Pautsch & Sherman P.C. while a student at Northern Illinois University. Upon graduation, she continued with Wessels Pautsch & Sherman P.C. on a full–time basis. As a legal assistant, Ms. Nelson assists in the representation of employers before various federal and state courts and agencies, including state departments of unemployment insurance, the Internal Revenue Service, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the circuit courts of Illinois. Her duties include legal research as well as the preparation and coordination of legal documents such as independent contractor agreements, employment agreements and employee handbooks. Ms. Nelson served as the editorial assistant and researcher for the book written by Wessels Pautsch & Sherman P.C. Attorney Nancy Joerg entitled Welcome to the World of Independent Contractors and Other Contingent Workers (published by Commerce Clearing House). Ms. Nelson prepares and selects materials for Wessels Pautsch & Sherman P.C. seminars regarding defense of independent contractor status. EducationMs. Nelson is a 1991 graduate of Northern Illinois University. She graduated summa cum laude with a straight A average. Ms. Nelson also received University Honors for her outstanding participation in the University’s Honors Program. A recipient of four academic scholarships, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business with an emphasis in Human Resource Management.
