Increased Unemployment Benefits

After the federal economic stimulus package was passed, Iowans will be receiving an extra $25.00 each week in unemployment benefits starting in March. The additional payments will not affect Iowans' Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund.

Iowa Legislature Contemplates State "WARN" Act

Iowa businesses may soon have to not only comply with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), but the Iowa legislature is also contemplating passing a state WARN Act as well. Businesses would have requirements to give advance notice to employees when they plan to reduce their workforce or close their doors, similar to the federal law. Iowa, unlike its neighboring states, currently does not have a state WARN Act. If the legislation passes and becomes law, we will provide notice of that in upcoming "Client Alert" newsletters.
