NANCY E. JOERG, a shareholder and senior attorney of the firm, acquired valuable experience in the private practice of law prior to joining Wessels Pautsch & Sherman P.C.. in its St. Charles, Illinois office. She is a member of the law firm's Executive Committee. Ms. Joerg is nationally recognized as a successful advocate and leading consultant in the area of independent contractor vs. employee status and other contingent workforce issues. In this capacity, she aggressively represents a wide range of companies who use independent contractors and are audited by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, IDOL, and the Internal Revenue Service. She also works with companies nationwide in drafting independent contractor agreements. Ms. Joerg is a recognized advocate and consultant for the trucking industry in its use of independent contractor owner-operator truck drivers. She has written hundreds of articles on this subject. She has also prepared and reviewed hundreds of employee handbooks. Ms. Joerg is deeply involved in consulting with construction and trucking companies who are concerned about the Illinois Employee Classification Act. Attorneys Nancy Joerg and Jeff Risch are the co-chairs of Wessels Pautsch & Sherman P.C. new Independent Contractor Legal Services Practice Group which advises companies on a wide range of I.C. issues and also counsels Illinois construction and trucking companies on how to stay out of trouble under the Illinois Employee Classification Act. Nancy Joerg has succesfully represented management before the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the United States Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board, and other agencies. Ms. Joerg speaks and writes nationally on a number of legal matters, including all aspects of independent contractor status, IL Department of E.S. audits, the Illinois Employee Classification Act, employee termination issues, discrimination, sex harassment, unemployment insurance concerns, wage and hour matters and issues affecting the contingent workforce. She has authored a book published for Commerce Clearing House entitled Welcome to the World of Independent Contractors and Other Contingent Workers. Nancy Joerg has actively participated in national and state bar associations. She is the Founder and Six-Term Chair of the Employment and Labor Law Committee of the Kane County Bar Association. In addition to being named as a top labor and employment lawyer by several prominent publications, Ms. Joerg has also been interviewed and quoted on key legal issues by many newspapers including The New York Times and Washington Post. Ms. Joerg is the guest speaker on several CDs presented by Masterpiece Audio Productions.
