How to Use Your Immigration Attorney

March 2014

By: Ryan M. Helgeson, Esq.

With the globalization of the U.S. economy, companies have an increasing need to bring talented foreign national executives, managers, and professionals to the United States. Unfortunately, these needs are often challenged by restrictive immigration laws and policies.

A business immigration attorney can help your company navigate these difficult issues. As the business immigration attorney at Wessels Sherman, it is my delight to represent corporate clients in all phases of the hiring and transfer of foreign nationals to the United States. I also represent individuals, who, because of their extraordinary ability in their fields, do not require corporate sponsorship to immigrate.

I counsel our clients about the best short- and long-term visa strategies for their specific needs. I advise clients on a wide range of business immigration matters, including H-1B specialty occupation matters, treaty investor visas, intracompany transferee status, and other types of nonimmigrant and permanent residence strategies.

Additionally, I provide a broad range of services related to compliance issues, including employment verification (I-9) results. I also provide advice related to the impact of immigration status on other employment law matters, such as discrimination litigation and corporate restructuring.

It is important that our clients are kept abreast of important changes to and developments in the immigration laws. To that end, you will find regular articles from me in our Client Alert. I also frequently present client seminars on a variety of immigration topics throughout the year, including this year's Wessels Sherman Power Seminar at Jumer's Casino in Rock Island, Illinois on May 2, 2014.
